Today, October 5, 2026, is World Teachers’ Day, and Uganda is officially commemorating it alongside the rest of the world. The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) is marking the day with professional training and activities focused on teacher welfare and development.
As we visited our supported schools for usual kitchen staff training and to check on the institutional improved cook stoves condition, we noticed private schools had class as usual, while all Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) schools were closed. Other government aided schools in Wakiso district were also operating under normal condition.
Nevertheless, celebrations are happening across the country, but with a stronger emphasis on training, welfare, and professional growth rather than traditional festivities.
